6 Reasons why Millenials are OBSESSED with BLACKPINK

by - April 29, 2019

Let us start with the basics for those just clicking on this article:

Who/ What is BLACKPINK?

This is a group of four South Korean pop stars Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa who started their group in 2016. Today (2019) they are considered the biggest girl group in the world having loyal fans from South Korea, to Chile, to amassing huge crowds in Europe and United States. So you might be asking, why are they so famous? Here are a couple of points to make:

Hotness:
Well if its your first time seeing them and you’re in the Western Hemisphere, they’re quite exotic South Korean ladies, tall, fashionable model looking artists, with crazy dance moves and an increasingly amazing sence of style and make up. So that would be one of the top priorities why these young artist are so famous, specially in the eastern hemisphere. There are considered inspiration.

Timing:
To be honest with you, I really can’t remember a girl band this big other than Spice Girls. Which was more than anything directed to Western culture and music and then spreading out globally. I could also mention more recently the Pussy Cat Dolls, but, lets be honest with ourselves, Black Pink have by far out passed the PCD. So the biggest girl group I can compare them with is Spice Girls. And hello, they have been out of the media as a group for a good 20 years. So it was a bout time another girl group tackled the world as they did.

Work Ethic:
Something we must admire is the work ethic these ladies and their management has which in part could be thanks to their culture which is widely known as a hard working one. To also add to this point, people born in 2000 don’t have a girl group to really relate to. I am a 90’s baby so mine was Spice Girls. We have a 20 year gap of girls that could be greatly inspired by these ladies. As mentioned in my point above, these ladies much like BTS don’t stop, they just don’t. Today they’re in LA, tomorrow they’re in London, the next morning they are in Singapore. So this group is a prime example of how with consistency and hard work, rewards come.

Music:
We can all agree it doesn’t matter that most of us in the West don’t understand the words to every single song, something we can all admit to, is that they’re catchy AF. I think by the end of the first BLACKPINK song I heard, I could already sing along or tune along with they’re catchy rhythm. They have also broken records being the first Asian girl group having a couple of songs make the Billboard top 100 list.

Trendsetting:
For those of you that weren’t aware, Korea is one of the biggest trend setting places in the world, from the natural looking plastic surgeries to artistic and statement fashion pieces. You bet these ladies are decked out with the best designer grabs and have amaazing stylists that make them look even better.
So, trendsetting could be an obvoius one making them not only kill it in the music industry but they’re also taking the fashion world by storm.
They have also done endorsement for world known brands like Dior, Puma and Louis Vuitton to name a few.

Philanthropy:
Not only are here ladies rich as can be, they also give back to the world and to their community. The group has been responsible for giving millions, yes MILLIONS of dollars to people in need.

So congrats BlackPink
